In the heart of Cortina d'Ampezzo, a 1923 former barn has been transformed into a contemporary residence through a restoration project that places natural materials, craftsmanship and high-quality stone surfaces at its core. The intervention, signed by architect Ambra Piccin and coordinated by Sabrina Soldà of SAP Management ltd., gives a new identity to the historic building while preserving its original character.
In this context, Antolini natural stones play a strategic role in defining the interiors, alongside planed spruce wood, aged iron and boiled wool in a coherent and measured material balance.
Architectural restoration and natural surfaces in dialogue with the alpine landscape
The residence sits among the main Dolomite groups, establishing a direct relationship with the landscape thanks to large glazed surfaces that bring natural light inside. This continuous dialogue enhances the wood, the dominant element of the project, and amplifies the presence of the natural stone surfaces, used in targeted spots to strengthen the tactile and visual perception of the spaces.
The original barn structure was completely dismantled, restored and reassembled with a philological approach: the historic roof pitches and the roof design were preserved, while the planed finish of the spruce returns an authentic vibration, able to converse with the stone surfaces.
Antolini® natural stone indoors: kitchen, living area and fireplace as material elements
Inside the day area, Antolini® natural stones become protagonists in functional and decorative applications.
In the kitchen, the Black Quartzite from the Exclusive Collection, in Leather finish, defines the countertop: a choice that combines mechanical resistance, durability and aesthetic quality, ideal for daily use in a domestic environment.
In the living room, the same Black Quartzite clads the contemporary fireplace, conceived as a monolithic volume. Here the surface is worked with the Hard Rock finish from the Textures+ Collection, which sculpts the stone with an irregular pattern, capable of capturing light and creating deep contrasts. The result is an architectural element that becomes the visual focal point of the space and converses with the aged iron and wooden surfaces.
The material continuity is further reinforced in the guest bathroom, where the Black Quartzite returns as a backsplash, ensuring coherence between the main rooms on the floor.
Marble and quartzite surfaces in the bathrooms: aesthetics and functionality
In the night area and bathrooms, Antolini® natural stones help define a more intimate and cozy atmosphere.
The Grey Roots marble, part of the Natural Stone Collection and offered in Leather finish, accompanies the planed wood with a balanced tone and discreet veining, creating surfaces that are soft to the eye and pleasant to the touch.

In the shower trays, the Hydro treatment from the Textures+ Collection introduces micro-irregularities obtained by high-pressure water jets, improving anti-slip characteristics and amplifying the surface's luminous effect. A solution that combines technical performance and aesthetic value, consistent with the bespoke approach of the entire project.
Natural stone as a design accent in mountain architecture
In this intervention, wood remains the common thread of the architecture, while Antolini® natural stone acts as a qualifying material accent, capable of enriching spaces without overpowering them.
The result is a residence that interprets alpine living in a contemporary key, transforming a historic barn into an elegant, functional environment deeply connected to the natural context.
